#6 - Hoopa Unbound

You may be wondering why as strong as a Pokemon as Hoopa Unbound only finds itself shy of even the top ten Pokemon of the Kalos Region. And yes, Hoopa Unbound has more power than most Pokemon, shoot even Legends and Mega Evolutions. In the movie it was given, even Arceus, the Pokemon God, was summonsed to try to defeat it. And yes, it has found its way to the highest (outside of being completely banned) to the Uber Tier of Competitive Pokemon play. But, unfortunately, it just doesn't have the speed needed to sweep, as well as a horrendous Defense Stat. Seriously, one U-turn can EASILY defeat it, almost comical and all.

Since Hoopa Unbound has to work with the hand it was given, which is still does so to a fabulous extent, it MUST have maximum Effort Values in its Special Attack and Speed (no matter how mediocre its speed truly is). Modest Nature works best for it, as there is ZERO point in giving away even more toward its speed as it won't get significantly higher. The Life Orb works best for Hoopa, giving it even more power.

The most common Hoopa Unbound Moveset starts with Nasty Plot, working best on a Pokemon that can't do much damage it it (usually a Special Sweeper). After further substantiating its power, Hoopa can rip holes in teams and knockout many opposing Pokemon with the combination of Psyshock, Dark Pulse, and Focus Blast. Psyshock and Dark Pulse both receive STAB, and have virtually perfect coverage with each other. Focus Blast is mainly for additional coverage purposed.
