10 Things We Wish Pokemon Would Do

Bring Gary Back As Ash's Rival

One of the main reasons why the first couple of seasons of Pokemon were as successful as they were was because of Gary. Gary Oak was the best rival towards Ash, hands down. Since then, we've seen many different potential rivals for Ash. Some, like Trip and Paul, were closely related to Gary. Unfortunately, Paul was a little too cynical, and Trip's personality had many inconsistencies. Other rivals were complete opposites when compared to Gary, such as Kenny. None of them have been able to match what Gary meant towards the series.

Gary was a cocky jerk, who always tried to one up Ash. He was often further along in his journey then Ash, and also had better Pokemon. The two hated each other, yet respected the other's battling. The main reason why Gary was the best: he brought out the best in Ash.

Since then, Ash hasn't been the same trainer. Sure.. He normally gets a little bit further when facing the Pokemon League Tournament Thing, but the fire is gone. The dream still exists and is in full motion, but the flame to be the best has slowly dimmed down.

The worst part is the creators have made Gary into a completely different person. He's now a kind, mature young man, who now wants to be a Professor (like his Grandpa). A complete three-sixty, if you ask me. I don't why the creators did this, but it was most likely because Gary faded out of the main storyline after Ash left to different regions. They could have just brought him back into the storyline, but they didn't.

It would be truly amazing if the show brought back Gary as Ash's Rival. It would bring back that nostalgia from the earlier seasons, along with making it feel less of a children's program.
