10 Great Remakes that Deserve Another Remake

8. Tales of Phantasia

Tales of Phantasia is a bit of an odd choice, I'll admit. The game has been remade four times since the original Super Famicom release. You would think that's enough times for Bandai Namco to make a definitive version of their first Tales of game, but they yet to get to that point.

The PlayStation version updates Phantasia's battle system to the faster Tales of Destiny's 'Enhanced Linear Motion Battle System', as well as a new playable character and updated graphics. The Game Boy Advance version melded some aspects of the Super Famicom version's graphics with the PlayStation version's gameplay tweaks, although the English translation for the game is flat out bad. The PlayStation Portable version takes the best of the PlayStation and Game Boy Advance versions of the game and adds in full voice overs and the Tales of famous Grade Shop. Finally, the iOS version is a port of the Game Boy Advance version, which was free to play with micro-transactions within it.

Confused yet? All these versions, but yet it seems that none of them fully capture everything that would make it the 'best' version. The PlayStation Portable version comes the closest, at least, but unfortunately the only version of the game that made it Westward was the Game Boy Advance version, which is less than ideal. With the Tales of series beginning to garner a larger fanbase in the West, and still going strong in the East, now's a great time for the company to look at their older entries and think of releasing more ports or remakes… and while it may seem like Phantasia has been remade enough, one more time to make a definitive version for gamers worldwide couldn't hurt too much, could it?
