Top 10 Sports Games of All-Time

4) Triple Play 96

Triple Play 96 for the SEGA Genesis is hands down one of the best baseball games ever. This cannot be debated! The game is very complex and requires an astute baseball mind to be good at. Just about everything you could think of that matters to baseball was important in this game. You could control base runners, lead off, and steal. Pitchers could pick off runners and had several signature pitches, signified by a number of exclamation marks next to the type of pitch in the menu. Pitchers got fatigued depending on pitch count and had to be replaced with setup men and eventually the closer. Fielders even made random errors sometimes.

Batters had two types of swings: aggressively swinging for the fences or conservatively swinging for average. You could easily aim the direction of your hit by adjusting your stance before the pitch. Knowing the variations in different ballparks helped in terms of hitting home runs since some had higher walls than others, as in real life. Another cool part of the game is that there were two different views – one was zoomed in (above) and the other was zoomed out (below).

It's hard to capture in words what made Triple Play 96 so fun. It's one of those games that just does everything right which is a rarity these days. This game definitely made me appreciate baseball more after playing it.
