Top 10 Sports Games of All-Time

1) Tecmo Super Bowl

Tecmo Super Bowl for the NES is the most fun I have ever had with a sports game. It is hands down the best football game ever made. I played through countless seasons of this game with the Buffalo Bills as a kid. It should not come as a surprise to anybody reading this list to see it at the number one spot. The game still has a cult following, and for good reason. It's awesome!

Tecmo Super Bowl was highly improved upon from its predecessor, Tecmo Bowl. For one, it actually had all 28 NFL teams with their real life rosters and the actual 1991 NFL schedule. There were also fumbles, injuries, and a single-season record book which I remember studying for hours in an attempt to set every record there was.

Like many of the other games on this list, Tecmo Super Bowl may seem simple to play to an outside observer but is actually very complex and skill intensive. The playbooks are fully customizable and include several trick plays like flea flickers and reverse handoffs. One of the oldest tricks in the book is zig-zagging up and down whenever you run in an attempt to avoid being tackled. For some reason, it also seems like doing this actually made you run faster…

Conclusion

There is no doubt this list includes some unorthodox entries that sports fans probably didn't expect to see here. Like any top 10 list, it all boils down to personal preference. In my opinion, sports games with a more arcadey feeling to them are more fun than ones that try to make it feel like you're actually on the field. What do you think some of the best sports games are that didn't make the list but should have? Leave a comment below!
