Top 10 F2P Massive Multi-Player Online Role-Playing Games

Here is a Top Ten piece that is really rather overdue now that I think about it. Considering that there are so many games out there that qualify as an F2P MMO figuring out which one(s) you might actually want to play can be a bit difficult, particularly when you remember that they are FREE-TO-PLAY MMO's....

The criteria for ranking the MMO's was tricky -- entertainment value is an obvious marker, but since they are all entertaining to one degree or another, we also need to add markers like game world size, developer support (are they constantly improving the game and adding more content?) and originality in play.

Another perhaps far more important marker though is how easy is it to get your mates to come and play this game with you? Because while playing with strangers can be fun, the best fun comes from playing with your mates!

With all that in mind, here is our list of the Top 10 F2P MMO/MMORPG's presently out there, and which ones you and your mates will find fun and engaging.

10. Dragon Nest

An MMO that has broad appeal no matter how hardcore you are -- which means it has equal appeal and attraction for the casual players to the hardcore and everyone in between -- this free-to-play game has an arcade feel to it that packs in lots of play options.

Basically you can role-play it to the hilt, or dive into it as a hack-n-slash adventure style game with all your focus on completing quests, but bear in mind that the world of Dragon Nest is PvP and magic focused, with lots of awesome spells and plenty of battle potential.

XP in the game is largely acquired by teaming up with other players and taking on instanced dungeons -- which is one reason why playing it with friends always makes it a lot more fun. Players pick from the traditional character classes -- which includes Archer, Assassin, Cleric, Kali, Mage, Tinker (Academic), and Warrior.

Combat in the game is more of a free-form in that it is non-targeting, and skills-based. What that means is that the better you get at it, the more dangerous you become -- a lower level player who has a better handle on combat skills in the game will often defeat a higher level player who does not have as fine an understanding of combat skills.

While it is a free-to-play title there is a Cash Shop in which players can purchase equipment that is not found elsewhere in the game. Some special items that can be bought with real-world money are useful in character development but it is easily possible to play without spending any real-world money.
