During your birthday, a villager will give you a Birthday Cake when you head outside of your home. This item itself is very useful since it boosts your HRA score. Also, Mom will send you a letter and some other villagers with good camaraderie towards you will send you presents as well.

Send villagers presents the day before in letters to get a present back from everyone on your birthday!
Or you can get presents from them every single day, for only the price of 2 packs of paper...
Buy 2 packs of paper, write something short to each villager & put a sea shell or fruit in it. Something that doesn't sell for much. The next day, they all should return letters with gifts back. Exotic fruit, clothes or items. I've gotten a LOT of my furniture collections & ALL my exotic fruit that way.
