Creep around the hand until you are touching a few objects on the table. Walk along the edge of the table, and you will be safe from the hand.
Keep going until you get past it, and then walk up next to the book. If you carefully and slowly creep closer to the book from the side until you reach it.
Then slowly creep in front of it and you will then be able to pick up the book without any trouble. Repeat the process on the way back if you want.

You have to hold the R trigger and walk in front of the book then let go of the R trigger, pick up the book, and hold the R trigger and get away.
