Yes you can combo quikinings. You have to press R2 and then press the button X, [], or O. It can only be a combo if two are learnt at the least. Meaning that if Vaan has two he can combo. Combo time is limited though and you only have about 5 seconds or so to push a button. A mist charge may appear occasionally. It casts many protective buffs like shell, haste etc. Also remember that a person can use a quickining even if they don't have mp as long as the person who initiated it has MP. You also need all three quickinings learnt to summon lv three Espers. Also after a certain chain you will get a bonus quickining similar to the element-ja spells. So keep comboing!

Ok, just to start they are quickenings and not "quikinings" XD.
And yes, you can do combos. To start you need to have a character with at least 2 quickenings or 2 characters with 1 quickenings each. Normally, when you are seing the quickening you choose being done you will see a Bar getting smaller in the lower part of the screen. That bar represents the time you have to select the quickening you want (by pressing X, [], or O). Of course a quickening costs a full MP bar, so the characters wont be able to do it endless times. You have to press R2 and select "Mist Charge". After that you will be able to keep doing quickenings but pay attention because the time you have to make them will be shorter time after time. With a little train Im sure you will be able to do a lv 15 combo. Heres a good video to learn:
