How to fight

I keep trying to get a better angle on the enemy while fighting but they are still hitting me with full strength. When I played FF X all you had to do was stand there. What am I doing wrong?

You are not doing anything wrong there is a differant type of system for FFXII. FFX used the ATB system used in most of the FF's but FFXII uses a real time battle system and also has a gambit system, you can choose the attacks manually or use the gambit system and they will attack automatically with whatever actions you have choosen for them by setting the gambits in the party menu.

You aren't doing anything wrong, you just need to get used to the new style of fighting thats all. It's pretty much the same except that you can see the monsters on the screen, and they can move around and attack you, and you can do the same to them. All you have to do is go up to the monster you want to kill, and press X on it,then press attack. And all the characters will go after it.

You're doing just fine so settle down. Basically you need to read the battle tutorials in the pause menu thingy where you change stuff. One you read that it should be a lot easier, I read it thoroughly and I've mastered it. A good tip to get the upper hand on enemies is to start the attack bar for all your characters before it sees you. It's a bit cheap but it can really help in some cases.
