When you are fighting Esper Mateus have the buffs Haste, Shell and Protect on all your characters especially Shell because this will reduce the amount of damage her Blizzaja does. Deal with the ice azer first then deal with Mateus one of the most useful thing you can have in this battle is the ice shield this will reduce ice damage by 50% which is a big help against her Blizzaja you can get this in Jahara or from the merchant in Mt Bur Omisace. Mateus is weak against thunder so use thunder magic on her and just keep attacking you can also use quickenings but it's best if you keep your MP. When you are fighting Judge Bergan again have the buffs on all your characters and have a gambit set for healing then all you have to do is cast Stop. Deal with the imperial soldiers then just keep attacking Bergan until you beat him.

I am confused, to the best of my knowledge, there is no judge that you must defeat in the Stilshrine of Miriam. If there is any esper in the shrine, then it'd be Mateus, the Ice esper. Being above level 45 would be the best time to fight him. Cast all your buff spells, Haste/protect/shell, etc before the battle, and make sure everyone is fully healed.

If you can, use Oilga and then use fire spells on him. Keep all your buffs up, heal regularly, and use the fir spells, and this battle will be simple.

Just to get some facts clear:
Mateus is actually resistant (not immune) to fire because ice is opposive to thunder in FFXII. Use thunder! He also has reflect on so you have to cast thunder on yourself with reflect on if you don't have dispel magic.

First...you don't have to be lvl 45!!! I was lvl 32 when I beat it...anyway,,,when all 7(or 6 idk) ice azers are by mateas in the beginning, release the biggest quickening chain you can on mateas.(meaning when it says "who will you target?" target mateas)At the end it should have an ending effect like inferno or torrent( I got lucky and got the second best end effect...cataclysm)when the chain is over it should do around 17000-20000 damage and it will automaticaly kill all(and I mean all!!!) the ice azers so you wont have to worry about those any more. Mateas will most likely have 1/3 or 1/4 of her life left(about 10000-14000 hp left,,, which is good cause she started out whith 35000+hp)now at this point just finish her off easily,what I did though is give vaan and basch each a bascheas wine (berserk) (this is depending on who your strongest characters are though)and had ashe sittin back , relaxing and cura/curagaing me and bash when we needed it. Then you win... Now for judge bergan(just a comment= He had a really sweet sword!!)he will have 3 judges behind you so go kill them, they only had 3000 hp each.when you finish them go to bergen and all you have to do is release a nice long quickening chain that does around 15000+ damage (seeing as though he only has 17000 hp)then he will have 2000 hp left and you each hit him once he will die.

When you go to rabanaster, BUY CURAGA!!! Don't get the newest weapons or armor because once you to the hunters town thing in the phon coast they will have better weapons, armor, etc. And you wiil have waisted money at rabanaster.
