Your dog is your faithful friend and you will end up loving and failing to do without him by the game's end. His appearance alters with you, and while the dog may live an improbably long time, you should learn to take care of it and get the most from what the canine has to offer.
The dog can perform a number of incredibly useful tasks.
Digging:
Throughout the game you will find various treasures and secret items buried beneath the earth. Your dog will bark and lead you to where the item is, before beginning to dig into the ground. When the spade icon appears in the appropriate slot, simply press D-Pad down while standing next to your dog and you will dig up whatever it has found.
You can purchase and find books appropriately named Treasure Hunting, allowing your dog to discover more lucrative items throughout the game, those buried deeper underground by people wishing to keep them from lightfingered heroes!
The dog will also let you know if there are any chests nearby.

Fighting:
There are various books, volumes one to five entitled Dogs of War. You can buy these from the book shop in Bowerstone throughout the course of the game, or find them around Albion. Each one offers your dog more powerful and aggressive attacks, though bear in mind that he can only attack once an enemy has been knocked to the ground. It is still incredibly useful to have him as frequently enemies can get knocked down more than once and are very hard for you personally to hit while down.
Your dog can also get hurt while fighting. Press the appropriate D-Pad button while next to him if you see him limping to use an elixir and restore him to full health. He also gets scared, particularly in caves, tombs and crypts, and you can comfort him, again using the context-sensitive D-Pad.
Tricks:
You can find and purchase many books teaching your dog new tricks throughout Albion. These are combined with your own expressions to add to the points you get from performing them. Highlights include the paw over the eyes and targeted urination for the more antagonistic members of society.

Hey what does playing fetch do for my dog?someone told me it raises its effectiveness in a fight we know about the books and use them. But I just can't seem to get him thinking I'm fun!but he loves me lots.
If you go to knothole island there is a memorial thing for your dog as you come out from the docks. If you ask someone to follow you, open the dog tomb thingy doors and then go inside and leave your "follower" in there and pull the leaver outside......the doors slam shirt and the person disappears and then it re-opens and your dog comes running out!!! It works!!!
I went back to the door that has the dog do tricks after I brought him back to life and he is gone...this is the second time I lost my dog. When I try to go back to Knothole and bring him back to life it doesn't open or let me read the sign...where can I buy a dog?

the problem is that your purity is maxed out, you have to be corrupt for the horns to come
to change your appearance do you have to change your pureness or just be good and evil because I am completely bad and I am only light blue and don't have horns please help! but my dog is black.
I think this guide should have a picture guide to it, what the different colours are when you are evil or good. That would help a lot...
how do u get to knothole i no u need to hav da expension pack from xbx live but i hav the game of the year edtion wicth has knothole and c da future allready on da disc how do i get there ?????? plz repli
At Knothole Island, there is a grave room sort of thing with a sign in front that says some thing about your dog coming back to life. If you picked The Needs Of Few, the sign won't say anything important. You can bring your dog back to life. You make a villager to walk into the grave room and shut the door. After a second or two, you dog runs out of the grave room. There is a reunion between you and your dog similar to the one after you get back from the spire. If you are a good person, you can still do it because you don't get any corruption or hate points. If you do not have the Knothole Island extension, you can not bring back your dog. But you can see his/her ghost at the Rookridge Inn.He/her will not follow you out of Rookridge.You will not see the ghost if you pick The Needs Of Few.
