I have a question similar to the last one, but my circumstances are different by a bit. I recently got a Pokemon FireRed used as well. My DS recognizes the game fine! It shows "Gameboy" and then goes to a white screen with a border, but freezes there. I'm wondering three things:
 
 1) Did the previous owner use Gameshark?
 2) Can I fix this (Ie- if the problem is Gameshark, can I do something to the game to fix it?)
 3 and most important) Even though I can't play the game, if there is a file on it, can I migrate Pokemon from it?
 
 Thanks, I know the game is probably unusable, but I want to be CERTAIN before I throw it away and pay Gamestop price for one.

It sounds like the game is unusable. It probably is like this because it wasn't taken care of or a Cheating Device was used on it (Action Replay or Gameshark).

If a Cheating Device was used on it, I don't think it can be fixed. It just seems to be too far gone.

You could try to Migrate the Pokemon, but I believe there is a risk to that. If the previous owner did used a Cheating Device and that is why the game is now unusable, it could effect you Nintendo DS Pokemon Game if you are able to Migrate Pokemon.

I feel your best bet is to get a another game.

I find that if my games freeze that it helps to blow the dust out of the game slot and the game.

Just try blowing into the cartridge and into the game boy, that works for me sometimes.
