The tempered Kirin is an Elder Dragon that is an upgraded version of the Kirin. This monster is in the form of a unicorn and should not be underestimated as it is one of the trickier beasts to defeat. At Hunter Rank 49 there is a quest called Thunderous Rumble in the Highlands that will unlock only when you haved defeated a tempered Kirin.
To have any chance of slaying this creature you will need to be properly prepared beforehand by tailoring your build towards the monster's weakness which is the fire element. It is important that you equip fast weapons that offers you plenty of opportunities to dodge as the fight with this beast will involve a lot of getting in, doing damage, and then getting out quickly. Ranged weapons can also be useful. The type of equipment that you should be looking to take must be anything that has lightning resistance, paralysis resistance, and stun resistance. Bring a Thunderproof Mantle along with a Vitality Mantle or a health booster and before you begin the hunt it is advised that you eat a meal for Elemental Resistance. You may also want to consider increasing your health by eating a Max Potion.
How to Beat Tempered Kirin
The tempered Kirins weak spot is it's horn but you can also do damage by attacking its sides and back. Avoid getting too close to this beast as it will stun you with a charge or a heel kick and follow up with a lethal lightning attack. When a tempered Kirin is enraged it becomes unpredictable and stronger and the only place that you will be able to do plenty of damage is the horn.
Make sure that before the fight starts you activate your Vitality Mantle and then during the battle when its effect wears off equip the Thunderproof Mantle. Although the horn attacks and charges are easy to avoid it is vital that you not stand directly in front of it as its most dangerous lightning attacks occur directly in front of it or within its line of sight. The key to this fight is being patient as defeating the tempered Kirin is all about punishing drawn out combos. Eventually when the monser tries to flee so it can sleep off its wounds you need to track it and wake it with bombs so that you cause the most sleep damage possible.
