How to Beat Kulve Taroth

Last Updated:

The Siege of Kulve Taroth is a new limited-time (19th April - 3rd May 2018) quest that tasks hunters to team up and track down the golden Kulve Taroth Elder Dragon, the newest creature to be added to Monster Hunter World. This new seige quest requires up to 16 hunters to team up in the same Gathering Hub to hunt down the same Kulve Taroth. Hunters will be split into groups of four to investigate and assault this golden Elder Dragon. The more objectives that are completed the higher the reward level. The higher the level, the more valuables and weapons each group will receive.

To participate in this hunt you will need a Hunter Rank of at least 16. It is advised that you equip some damage reducing mantles and stock up on cold drinks and all the different types of potions as the Kulve Taroth changes its weaknesses. When this Elder Dragon has its scales covered in gold, thunder and water elements will be the most effective but once the gold armour has been removed it will be ice, dragon, and water.

Participating players begin this quest in a new area called 'Caverns of El Dorado' which you search and collect samples from Kulve Taroth. These samples can either be tracks or scales as both will attract blue Scoutflies. Once the required samples have been found you will be asked by the Handler to return to Astera where you will be shown a short tutorial at the Gathering Hub on how the new Siege quest works and be able to view
information about Kulve Taroth based on everyone's contributions. The progress each party makes on the various objectives will count towards the total. The moment Kulve Taroth’s horns are broken off, the investigation is considered complete.

How To Beat Kulve Taroth

First Phase
When you have found Kulve Taroth keep tracking and knocking off as much of its gold armour as you can, focus primarily on trying to remove the gold armour on its most vulnerable spots which are the front portions of the beast, in particular the head, front legs and chest. In this first phase the monster won't fight back so you do not have to concern yourself with taking damage.

Second Phase
In the second phase the monster will find an open area of the cavern and start to become more aggressive. Keep trying to knock off its gold scales but also observe and learn its traits and tendencies such as the fire breathing attack when it tilts its head back.

Third Phase
When enough damage has been done the Kulve Taroth will enter the third phase where it will lead the hunters to a fiery cavern covered in lava. Your objective now it to knock the Kulve Taroth over using the boulders in the cavern and strike it hard and fast on its head and belly. As you battle the beast and it gets dragged through the lava its remaining armour will begin to heat up and become vulnerable to the point where it glows red and you will be able to hack it off.

Fourth Phase
Once the gold scales have been removed the Kulve Taroth will lead you to another area which will be the fourth and final phase. Now that it is not encumbered with its gold armour the monster will be a leaner, faster, more aggressive version. You will find its fire breathing attack will encompass a wider range and be more devestating. At his point you will need to dodge and try to get in hits whenever you can until the beast is either defeated or it escapes.
