Overwatch Guide

Overwatch mode in Gears Tactics is a feature that allows you to create 'death zones' by forcing enemies to move into an area they will not be able to survive. Check out our Overwatch guide to find out more about the best defensive tool in the game.

Mastering Overwatch mode in Gears Tactics is very important as this feature enables members of your squad to secure a selected part of their field of vision and will also help you from being surprised by the enemy who will attack at any time and from many directions.

Overwatch allows your heroes and the soldiers in your squad to establish an ambush zone across a cone-shaped sector of the battlefield which they will then shoot at anything that enters it. Overwatch is less about getting a kill and more about denying an enemy the right to move through a space, giving you the positioning advantage. The range and width of your Overwatch cone is determied by the class of the character and the weapon they wield. Snipers have thin but extremely long cones, while scouts and their shotguns have short and wide cones. The smaller your Overwatch cone, the more accurate your shots will be. Try to avoid placing multiple Overwatch cones over one specific area as all the characters that have their cone concentrated on the area that the enemy is trying to move through will open fire and you will be wasting shots.

Locust will also use Overwatch to try and pin down your heroes and the soldiers in your squad by strategically placing one or more cones. To counter Overwatch mode you need to use skills that can 'interrupt'. These can be grenades, skills of your characters, or the shooting modes of a given weapon. If a Scout is pinned by a sniper, use the cloak ability. This will remove the pin.
