The 4 position support, also known as the farming support, is designated to get as much farm and experience as they can without disrupting the safelane hero’s farm. This is mainly done by doing creep pulls. The position 4 support also hovers around the carry, making sure they stay alive, or are able to initiate fights within the lane and possibly garner an advantage or kills. This support should also prioritize getting the bounty rune if the carry is far away or in the lane free farming.

It is also possible for the 4 position support to become a full time jungler and become another source of damage later on. This can be done by very few heroes, but the downside is that the carry has one less hero to protect them from ganks.

The position 4 support is usually played by heroes with offensive skills, and can participate and impact team fights. These are also heroes that can achieve a power spike after obtaining enough levels or a certain item. For example, Mirana can transition into a damage dealer and a free creep farming ability after she gets Aghanim’s. Thus, it is important for the 4 support to get some semblance of farm, experience, and items as well.

Another crucial role of the 4 support is to help the position 5 support in purchasing items such as observer and sentry wards if the position 5 support is lacking in farm.

Great 4 position supports include Mirana, Bounty Hunter, Naga Siren, Enchantress, and Chen.
