8. The Evil Within
The Evil Within is another game that got a lot of hype but ended up disappointing some people. That's to be expected when a game gets so hyped up, though. Sometimes you just can't meet people's unrealistically high expectations no matter what you do. The Evil Within delivered on what the trailers promised and that's good enough for me.
This is what survival horror should be like. Resident Evil has strayed from the formula that originally made the series legendary and has become nothing more than an action series now. Why should I be afraid of running into a zombie when I'm armed with a grenade launcher and three different submachine guns? This has left gamers who enjoyed true survival horror games with few options in recent years aside from maybe Dead Space but even that has gotten pretty action-oriented. The Evil Within is just what the doctor ordered for this genre.
What's cool about this game is that more often than not you simply have to run and hide from your enemies – you can't just blow everything away. Even if you do kill an enemy, most of the time they will be able to revive and come back unless you burn them. You only have a limited supply of matches so using one feels painful. Thinking about what will happen if you run out can make you anxious. The Evil Within can truly be scary at moments because it utilizes a psychological thriller angle (in fact it's known as “Psycho Break” in Japan).
Some reviewers criticized the graphics but c'mon folks, the game looks fine. It's definitely one of those games that either you're going to love or you're going to hate, though. Because The Evil Within is something different that'll keep you on your toes, it earns a spot on this list as one of the best games of 2014.
Atleast 3 genre defining games on the list, and 3 is Wii U exclusive.

While I was reding this list I thought about the interesting choices that the author put on this list. I might not have put some of these games on this list. But alas, this is not my list. Someone went out of their way to show the internet some of the games he's into. So you'd think the internet would give him at least a shred of respect.

People need to wake up to themselves here. The way this list was treated was appaluling. People going out of their way to absolutely destroy whatever they don't like. There is a difference between a comment and an insult. Clearly some people don't know that. This is a comment section after all. You comment on the list not make out like you're the best in the world just because you're behind a computer screen. It's time for people to know when to back off. The world does not revolve around you.
P.S. I would have put up the same game for number one.
I was interested until the author made an immature and unneeded rip on feminists. Garbage like that makes me ashamed of being a lifetime gamer.

Shadows of Mordor ?
No offense, but to me, Shadow of Mordor was not what it was hyped to be. It was a hack and slasher with absolutely no story to speak of. Who even does that!!??

Bayonetta 2 is a masterpiece. I love the game and I highly recommend it to everyone. Awesome job Platinum Games!
Everybody needs to stop crying. Its not that bad of a list,these were All good games some not great im looking at you titanfall and some were amazing like wolfenstein and evil within and super smash bros. To the person who wants watch dogs on the list come on worst game of the year. I do think shovel knight, transistor and shadow of mordor should be on this list though they were all great games. My #1 game was wolfenstein just a well put together beautiful action packed game same with bayonetta 2 both top of my list. Instead of talking smack on this list why don't you put up you're perfect list and show everybody what a true gamer's list should look like.

Firstly, to the person in the comments that asked "what about Sleeping Dogs" ... it's a 2012 game, it wouldn't be on a 2014 list. One comment as terrible as the list it's attached to.
Titanfall didn't do as well as people expected and dropped a lot of players because, while it did do some things right, it didn't do much of anything. A full price arena shooter that offers a bare minimum when there are a lot of other available for free. It was never going to be huge.
Hearthstone ... laugh? I nearly wet myself.
Next year I suggest playing some games or getting a better opinion than you obviously got from the drunk teenager that gave you that list.

A quirky list. I was left asking about the elephant in the room titles such as cod advanced warfare or gta. I noticed an insinuation of this with Titan falls. This is a mega blockbuster at number 9. I mean come on this game is on a level which I have never seen. For those of you who have never played it; you should. This game style has been dreamed about for 20 years. The notion of a call of duty style first person shooter where you literally climb into a robot of mega destruction is breath taking. Over all, this list captured wii u as a dominat force in next gen consols. As it should. After all, Xbox 1 and ps4 don't have many titles. Quite frankly, do we really have to wait untill next Christmas to get games worthy of these new super machines. Most, if not all gamers, could have stayed with PS3 and 360. Good thing I had a wii u before I got my super machine with no software.
Holy Christ this list is garbage.
I think smash bros, Mario Kart 8, and The Evil within Kinda deserve to be on this list. It doesn't really matter though cuz its based on 1s opinions. If this were my list I would Have Like 20 games or more cuz I like almost every game.
