Top 10 Best Games of 2014

2014 is almost over and with the New Year rapidly approaching you know what that means – it's time for all the 'best of' lists for the last year! Many of the video games on this list can actually already be found on my Top 10 Video Game Christmas Presents list so I suggest also reading that article for some additional points about those games not repeated here. Now without further adieu, here are the top 10 best games released in 2014 in my opinion.

10. South Park: The Stick of Truth

An old school turn-based RPG at heart, South Park: The Stick of Truth was a surprisingly good game. After the disappointing South Park Let's Go Tower Defense Play! came out several years ago, I was initially quite skeptical of The Stick of Truth despite the hype the game was receiving leading up to its release. The fact it was a turn-based RPG caught my attention though because you rarely see those anymore (unfortunately).

The game itself was really well made. It features some classic RPG game mechanics like character classes. There are five classes in total: Paladin, Wizard, Rogue, Adventurer, and Jew. The game may look and feel exactly like an episode of South Park but it isn't just any normal South Park game. It is set in a fantasy theme where characters inside of the game is roleplaying like in the Lord of the Rings episode from the show. So for example, Cartman isn't just Cartman, he's a powerful Wizard. This makes things much more interesting than if it were just set in normal, everyday South Park.

The Stick of Truth features many characters from the show. Aside from the obvious Cartman, Stan, Kyle, Butters, and Kenny, some others with notable appearances include Randy Marsh, Al Gore, City Wok owner Tuong Lu Kim, Terrance and Phillip, and Mr. Hankey just to name a few. Unfortunately a few fan favorites are missing from the game such as Towelie and Satan.

Even if you're not a huge fan of South Park as a show, you can still thoroughly enjoy this game. The fact The Stick of Truth feels like an old school RPG and didn't completely suck made it an auto-include on the list for me.
