Top 10 Best Games of 2014

9. Titanfall

Titanfall had its flaws but overall was actually a pretty decent game. It gave first-person shooter fans on consoles that enjoy playing online multiplayer a much needed reprieve from simply relying on Call of Duty year after year. It was just similar enough to Call of Duty in terms of controls that a veteran of that franchise would feel right at home but also different enough in terms of mechanics that it didn't just feel like another CoD clone.

Titanfall is very fast-paced and seems to have set somewhat of a trend as other shooters are starting to move towards a faster-paced play style as well (just look at Advanced Warfare, it's almost nothing like old CoD games). When FPS games first became popular online years ago, twitch shooters were king. Then slower, more methodical shooting games like Halo, Call of Duty, and Battlefield became popular. It's good to see things trending back towards frenetic gameplay. Running and gunning has always been the most fun. Getting mowed down by campers watching doorways hoping to get a camp package – I mean care package - isn't for anyone.

Titanfall may not have been the huge hit some people hoped it would be, but it did alright for itself. According to numbers from VGChartz, the game sold roughly 3.84 million copies worldwide across all platforms to date. Part of the reason it didn't sell more copies is likely because the game lacked any single player campaign. Obviously the developers wanted to focus solely on creating the best online multiplayer experience they could but there is still a huge audience for FPS campaigns that was neglected.
