Top 5 Most Over-Hyped And Underwhelming Games Of 2013

2. Beyond: Two Souls

Where to start in the realm of visionary David Cage's delusional aspiration of movie making within the realm of video games? Time and again, the developer offers the gaming community an amazing premise and then whittles it down as much as possible, to clarify that the interactive part is only there through coercion. It's happened with every other title, Beyond: Two Souls is perhaps the most poignant of them all.

Featuring a star-studded cast, the adventure's spiritual nature and random memory lapses would make for tons of varying action. Only, giving players agency over their fate would destroy the direction of the artist, meaning that whenever possible, the scene is merely pointed towards playing out exactly as thought out.

Just how exactly a game like Beyond: Two Souls can hold so much potential, yet tap so little of it and dwindle into a giant cinematic is nearly inexplicable. There should've been a lot more things to do with Ellen Page. Instead, we only received a story about her alternate life with a ghost. Then again, the project was pretentious enough to be marketed with a 2,000 page script. In retrospect, that was a pretty clear sign that it wasn't going to be a game.
