Top 5 Most Over-Hyped And Underwhelming Games Of 2013

5. Bioshock Infinite

Probably one of the more discussed games this year, Bioshock Infinite surprised many with a story that exudes zeitgeist. A liberal epic told through a conservative dystopia tackled many of the current events in the world, more particularly, the United States. A religious zealot threatens the livelihood of the people with blind beliefs, while everyone outside of that target demographic suffers. Ultimately, scientific icons will seek to triumph over this great evil. As social commentary, this iteration is one of the greater works ever created.

Still, for such a tightly wound narrative, it only used the shell of the game it could be. While still functional and enjoyable on a shallow level, shooting and other action sections in Bioshock Infinite were only a string to tie the next atmospheric piece to the previous bit. Enemies are easily dispatched with whatever weapon lays scattered around. Shooting galleries are often forgiving and auxiliary skills felt like an unnecessary addition.

It's only last on the list because of how overwhelming its plot is. As a game, however, fans have been crying over its importance for a year now. Admit it; it's not that stellar. It doesn't need to be, but its pitfalls should also be recognized.
