Top 5 Most Over-Hyped And Underwhelming Games Of 2013

4. Dead Space 3

Perhaps Dead Space 3 is seeing the other side of the coin when it comes to overstatements. Here, the horror game of old is getting buried under detractions from purists. For the third one, Electronic Arts (EA) and Visceral opted to go another route. They switched priorities and made a similar cinematic blockbuster, but as an action game with horror elements, not the other way around. Its hook is much different.

This has upset fans to such an extent that they disown the third portion as a worthy successor, much like Dragon Age 2 presented a great game, within the wrong scope for its audience. It was still a workable feature, full of big events and creepier perils upon eerie snowcaps. It can even be done in cooperative setting, though that also downsizes the fear factor even more.

One thing though: The damn crafting; that was unnecessary. If the horror element has to stay aloft, then a break in pacing like building useless things can't be present. That's more depreciating than the attached monetization model that EA forced onto it. Atmosphere in Dead Space, whether it's action or horror, is bound to its immersion. That's not possible with multiple intermissions.
