Top 5 Most Over-Hyped And Underwhelming Games Of 2013

3. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

This one was probably doomed from the start, when indecision began to creep in and developer Platinum Games championed the concept. It sure does sound fun to slash up a bunch of things, slashing them up some more and then watch the slices fall to pieces exactly as how they were cut. It is entertaining, in the same simple pleasure that Fruit Ninja allows it to be. Even with the developer's trademarked silliness, however, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance hasn't much more to offer than camp factor in spades.

From its completely unhinged story of robot ninjas ripping out body parts for sustenance, all the way dressing those in sombreros; this game is all gimmicks, all the time. Level design is simply built up of generic environments that cater the model, without adding any spirit of their own. Camera angles are so furiously looking to follow the action that the whole becomes unwatchable.

As slapstick, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is a king, even by name alone. For its gameplay, the action title is not much more than a footnote in the franchise it spun off from. If protagonist Raiden was pitiful before, now that character has just become laughable. It's not that much of an upsell.
