To be honest it doesn't really matter where you start. You do need to do all the levels eventually to get all the bonuses etc but you can pick and choose which episodes and indeed which chapters you do as you go along.

My advice would be that if you are finding a particular chapter a problem leave it and come back to it once you've unlocked some of the extras by completing other chapters.

There are, undoubtedly, certain chapters that are a LOT easier to complete once you've got certain extras available. Also bear in mind that most if not all chapters are set up so you can complete them first time round but will need to come back to them in Free Play with other characters to get all the minikit pieces, power bricks etc.
