How do I write 12 pieces of music?

I wrote 9 already but all of the other available instruments are locked. How can I write more music if I don't have the instruments available for it?? HELP PLEASE this is the most boring and redundant mission ever and I just want it to be over with. I've wasted so many lifestyle points trying to get this done.

This is done via the Teen Idol Mission and it's Quests, and you will obtain the instruments through that mission. The prize for each set is the next instrument.
