Can a baby grow up into an adult? Or in general, can the sims age and die of old age?

Sims do not Age & a baby can't turn into an Adult either. I don't understand why, it would improve the game in my opinion

The baby is first a baby then a toddler never ever grows up but it's cool having a baby toddler you have to get a crib then press a button and wait or if you have enough simolions you can get it easy does. That answer your question

You have to make a birthday cake first and then press happy birthday and it will turn into a todler and then you bake cakes on until you are old
