There are 4 main difficulty levels in Desperados 3, these are: Beginner, Normal, Hard, and Desperado. All of these difficulty levels are available from the start of the game, you do not need to complete the main campaign on lower difficulty levels. If you are new to the game it is recommended that you begin by playing the Normal difficulty level and only contemplate playing the harder difficulty settings such as Hard and Desperado when you are familiar with the game and have decent knowledge of in-game maps as these levels feature enemies that have a very short reaction time.
All the difficulty levels except Desperado allow you to stop time by using the Showdown Mode which is a feature in the game that gives you time to plan a course of action after the alarm has been triggered. Desperados 3 does not allow you to complete challenges at the Beginner level. If you plan to complete each mission in 100 percent you will need to set the game to at least the Normal difficulty level.
