How to become a designer?? Do I need to buy any furniture??

Yes you will need to build a Hobby store..nowadays it's called Promotions'r'us. Buy all of the Items there if you want but for a designer specifically you need the Fashion studio for designer...then buy it go to your inventory select hobby and drop it it any Sims house. Then click on it with the sim and select what time frame you want...longer time means more better product.
