Flight School: Knife Flight

The name for this may be a bit confusing if you have any training in flying or have played a lot of flight sim or air combat -- basically it means flying on your side.

To obtain a gold medal you must complete the lesson in under 54 seconds; to obtain a silver medal in under 1 minute and 15 seconds; to obtain a bronze medal in under 1 minute and 40 seconds.

Getting a gold medal for this lesson really should not be that significant a challenge if you are comfortable with flying controls and are well-versed in the way that the stick responds to movement.

The biggest issue here is remembering to use the rudder to maintain latitude control over the plane nad keep it flying level while it is on its side. Basically the rudder (the control in the tail) replaces the ailerons for this purpose.

To get gold, simply do the following:

(1) Watch for the red meter to appear rather than listening for Jackson to tell you to execute the maneuver. When the meter appears do the maneuver.

(2) Once you have the plane on its side, you use the rudder controls to keep it steady -- the easy way to do that is to tap the rudder control rather than holding it so that you do not over-compensate and put the plane into a climb.

(3) Remember that the rudder movement you want is opposite from the bank -- so when you bank left you want to use the right rudder (Right Bumper) and when you bank right you use the left rudder (Left Bumper).

(4) Remember that the maneuver does NOT complete until you have filled the meter AND returned the plane to straight and level flight! To get the moves done in the fastest time means you need to complete them in the shortest time - the next move will not initiate until you complete the first and that means leveling out the plane.

If you use the tips above you should have no trouble completing the two Knife maneuvers and obtaining your gold medal!
