Okay, I'm half way through getting the Zora child to Kakariko and I'm fair stuck! I just don't seem to be able to shoot down the birds while trying to protect the carriage and it's frustrating me! Also, the boomerang seems to reject me when I try to lock it on to the carriage >_< is most annoyed right now

First of all, you don't need to lock onto the carriage to blow away the fire and try getting rid of some of the guys following you on boars beforehand. Use the bow and arrows to rapidly fire at the birds. I had trouble with it but if you just keep trying eventually you will succeed.
