Welcome to Bricksburg! And say hello to the protagonist of our story - You! Well, you as in Emmet you, but still you get the idea...

To help put things in perspective for you, a full Eight-and-a-half years have passed since The Overlord smashed his way into the lair of The White Wizard and seized The Kragle -- whereupon he learned about the Prophecy and the very considerable threat of the Piece of Resistance -- both for rendering The Kragle impotent as well as overturning his plans.

The Overlord has long-reaching desires -- first to become The President, and gain control over the Army, the Air Force, the Navy, and the Police, then to dictate his terms to a government whose function, at least in terms of how The Overlord views it, is to serve Him...

Our Introduction to Emmet comes in the form of experiencing what is very obviously his regular wake-up and greet the day routine, and judging by the self-help pamphlet (and the actions of the other citizens of the town) Emmet is not alone in his quest to find a better life :)

If you are new to the LEGO game series you are in for a rather strange welcome indeed -- but if you are an experienced LEGO gamer than you will already grok the over-the-top enthusiasm with which the characters in the LEGO universe live their lives...

After waking, going through your ablutions, and dressing for a regular day at work you will follow the green Stud trail to your job -- BUT -- on the way be sure that you gather in as many Studs as you can on the way! We have already covered the why of this, but just to remind you, collecting Studs serves several purposes.

The first purpose is to collect Studs as money - later you will be able to use them to purchase objects/items/characters. The second purpose is collecting the Studs to reach the target number in order to unlock the Gold Brick for doing so.

Fixing the Gate

As you follow the Green Stud Trail you will reach the broken gate -- this is your first fixing action as you are a construction worker, and you have a wrench, you can repair the gate mechanism in order to open the gate and thus reach the next section of the zone. How about that?

Once you are inside your next task is granted - you need to obtain the Kit Instructions -- to do that simply smash your way to the right to clear the path until you reach the Delivery Tube, which you then repair. Once that is managed switch to the Female Construction Worker so that you can jump up to the Tube and grab the Instructions, then return to the previous area with them and build the Porch!

This is a very basic build but it follows the basic build process, which is to place whichever block the instructions highlights. In this case that would be the Tree. Once that is selected and placed the build progresses from there on its own, and voila! Mischief Managed!

Obtain the Drill

The next task is to obtain the Drill from the Equipment Shed. The Equipment Shed is the white and red building on the left - smash your way to its door and use your wrench to repair the door mechanism so that you can gain entry and collect the Drill.

As you exit the shed the Foreman tells you to use the Drill to rear up the old road surface and the structure here - you do that by activating the Drill (hold down the 'X' Button) and then use the Left Joystick to move around, destroying the targeted objects.

Remember to collect the Studs that are spawned when you destroy objects - be quick about that so you get as many as you can before they disappear!

Once you have destroyed the road surface and structure -- including its Garden -- the Foreman lets you know that for the next task you need a Wrecking Ball! Ah but do get that you will need to collect the instructions for building it...

Head to the right and you will encounter a crew that is trying to get the Instruction Machine to work - but they are not having much luck. If you fix it for them they will give you the Instructions for the Wrecking Ball that you need - so hey, fix it!

Starting Your Day the LEGO Way and Getting On the Job!

Fixing the Instruction Machine

To get this baby running you need to insert the two power packs -- the one on the left is already in position so all that you need to do is push it into place - the one on the right though requires some extra effort.

First you need to use the Drill to destroy the object that is blocking your access to the flatbed trailer. Once that is destroyed, have the Girl Worker jump up onto the truck trailer and push the Power Pack off the end.

Once it is on the ground, push it into the slot and bam! The Machine is now fixed, powered, and properly running!

The Worker who asked you to fix it now hands over the Instructions that he has -- they were in his back pocket all along it seems -- but that is only half of the instructions! The other half ar eon the roof of the building, and to get to them you will need to reverse the direction of the conveyor belt!

Reversing the Conveyor Belt

To get this job done you need to have one of your team jump into the control booth using 'Y' and then raise the platform with your other team member so that they can repair the Conveyor Belt control with their Wrench thus reversing the direction of the belt!

With that done, head up the Belt Ramp to the top where you will discover that the crew up here that is supposed to be working is taking a long break - and their Foreman has lost all authority with them so he asks you to find a way to get his crew out of the Break Room and back to work...

To do that you need to repair the speakers and get the music system working - because that is sure to get the crew out of the Break Room and into the Construction Yard, where there is plenty of room to Dance!

First push the plug in to get the radio working -- just look for the Orange Arrow -- but once you do that you will see that the volume leaves a lot to be desired for!

Head up to the top of the Break Room and repair the Speaker there, and then to the left to repair the second Speaker at which point the crew leaves and starts dancing to the mini-game you need to complete by timing the button-presses when the button symbol is in the center of the target.

The closer you hit it to the center the better the score -- you are shooting for Awesome, but Cool is good too!

Once you complete the mini-game you get your score and the Foreman gives you the other half of the instructions for the Wrecking Ball! If you scored well enough in the Mini-Game you also unlock the Pants - so be sure to collect them before you grab the second plan and head back...

With the plans in hand head into the Blue Tube to slide down to the previous area, and insert the plans into the Build Machine.

The Wrecking Ball and Knocking Down the Apartment Building

Building the Wrecking Ball

The Instructions for the Wrecking Ball are a bit more complicated than the ones for the previous build, and this build is also where you get introduced to the Build Mini-Game process - which is a combination of time and accuracy.

Basically the faster you complete the build, the larger the Bonus Studs amount you will earn as your reward. You lose Studs form your total for selecting the wrong block - sadly that is easy to do because the Joystick can be a bit sensitive, and if you do not hold it steady you can easily apply the wrong block by accident.

But hey, it is a learning experience, so give it a go!

Using the Wrecking Ball

With the Wrecking Ball Crane and Wrecking Ball now built, hit 'Y' to enter the crane and use it to hit the target zone on the meter, causing the Wrecking Ball to bring down the large building in as few swings as you can mange!

Once the building is destroyed you will earn your bonus Studs - thus finishing the working day!

This will trigger a CS that advances the story -- during which Emmet encounters a stranger who is not supposed to be there and, in the process of telling her that, Emmet ends up falling down a very long and massive pipe deep into the ground.

Your job during this is to try to aim Emmet so that he collects as many Bonus Studs as he can while avoiding painful objects that can hurt him.

When Emmet finally reaches the bottom of the pipe this triggers the CS in which Emmet finds the Piece of Resistance -- and ignoring very good advice about not touching strange blocks,

Emmet Discovers the Prophecy and Becomes The One

Emmet touches it, triggering the next stage in the Prophecy by bonding with the PoR and becoming The One... The Special One... The Hero...

Except, well, no... Emmet should not have done that because he is not The One... The Special One.;.. The Hero.... But hey, he is now!

The Completion Screen

We now reach the completion screen during which all of your efforts are judged, and you get to see just how well you did. Many things now happen -- you get to see the characters you unlocked during play of this mission, you get to see how many Studs you collected and whether or not the total was sufficient to achieve the set goal, and you get to see if you unlocked any Achievements.

Character Unlocks

Completing the first Mission results in unlocking the following Characters:

  • Cardio Carrie

  • Demolition Guy

  • Emmet

  • Emmet (Pajamas)

  • Frank the Foreman

  • Gail

  • Larry the Barista

  • Mrs Scratchen-Post

  • Wyldstyle

All of the Studs you collected are counted up and added to your account, and you get to see if you collected enough to complete the Stud Collection Goal and unlock the Gold Brick - and of course you did!

In addition to that you have also unlocked Freeplay for the Bricksburg Construction Zone and Level - but for now we will be ignoring that, as we are focused on completing the story mode campaign - Freeplay we will cover later!

That nicely wraps up the Bricksburg Construction Adventure, unlocking the Achievement "Lets Get Craaazzzyyy" (20G) Complete Level 1 - Bricksburg Construction.

If you completed one of the Builds without making any mistakes you will also have unlocked the Achievement "First Try!" (20G) Completed an Instruction Build without losing any studs.
