When you reach the 5th day of spring in your first year you will recieve a letter that informing you that all the stones blocking your access to the mines norteast of the Carpenter's Shop and just west of the Adventurer's Guild have been removed. This now enables you to access mines which you can forage around in. Inside the mine you will be able to find gold and special items that can earn you a decent amount of cash.

There are a total of 120 floors (levels) in the mines with a save point accessed after every five. The quality of the items you find will increase the further into the mines you go. You will need to use your pickaxe to smash rocks in order to obtain stone, ore and geodes. You can also use a hoe on dirt patches to collect minerals, artifacts, ore, clay, and cave carrots. A ladder must be revealed on each floor to advance deeper in the mines, it will sometimes appear when rocks are broken or after enemies have been defeated. You will be given a sword to defend yourself from the beasts that are trying to drain your energy in the mines.

You will find a minecart on the entry floor which you can use for quick travel to and from the mine. It is unlocked by either completing the Community Center boiler room bundles or purchased from the Joja Community Development Form.
