If you are new to Stardew Valley the game can come across as a bit overwhelming as there are plenty of things you need to keep on top of if you want to progress. These include jugglig energy, talking to people, building your farm up, and always trying to earn money in some way so that you can continue expanding your farm. Below is a list of tips that will help beginners get up and running.

Explore Menus

One of the first things you should do is take the time to explore the options and menus as you will be using them quite a bit so it makes sense that you get familiar with them. One particular option that is recommended to new players is the 'Always Show Tool Hit Location' option, which you can tick on from the Options menu in the game.

Basics of Farming

The first thing you need to do is clear the land so that it is ready to grow grops. Once the land that has been done you must till the soil before sowing the seeds. If you then use the watering can to water the seeds every day you will eventually have crops.

Crop Cycles

You will quickly discover that not all crops take the same amount of time to grow so you need to make a note of the different kinds of seeds and how long they each take to grow so you roughly know how long each crop takes until it can be harvested. If each day you plant between 10 and 30 seeds you will have something to harvest every day which will keep the money rolling in from the shipping box and ensure you have cash for everything.

Different Seasons

It is important that you are aware that each season will allow you to plant different seeds and reap different crops. Regardless of what type of crops you grow they will still need regular watering, especially in Summer. One thing you you will want to keep an eye on is making sure that you don't allow crops to spoil or go outside of their ideal season.

High Quality Crops

There are mulitple tiers to the crops you can grow, the higher the quality the more money you can earn from them. The highest quality of crops you can grow are star grade crops and to harvest these you will need to craft or purchase fertiliser to enhance the quality of the soil and keep them watered every day. Growing star grade crops is a wothwhile investment as they will sell for a lot more money.

Only Sell Harvested Crops

To begin with while you are learning what each item does it is advised that you only sell harvested crops. Store the items in chests until you know what they actually do.

Craft Scarecrows

Once you start the process of growing crops you will eventually level up and be able to craft scarecrows to protect your crops and save money. Scarecrows cover a range of 8x8 with their bodies in the center So if you’re making your crops in 3x3 patterns you need to place them in the middle.
