The Basics

The concept behind Pet Rescue Saga is that you use tile-matching gameplay to clear blocks of the same color. The way this works is that you are presented with a screen full of colored tiles. Where you see two or more tiles in a horizontal or vertical line, you are able to click on them and cause them to disappear. The goal is to do this to every tile on the board.

This is not as easy as it sounds. More points are awarded for clearing larger blocks of tiles, while you have to try to avoid having any left over at the end of the match - i.e. one colored tile on its own, as this is impossible to clear.

The game uses the first few levels to teach you about these basics, dropping in helpful hints along the way to get you used to the concepts of gameplay. You navigate the map, once you have got past the first level, by clicking the next circle on the route. The main aim is to get 3-stars on each level, so if you want to replay one, simply click it again to have another go. Often playing a certain level over and over is the best way to learn the ropes and get three stars.

Once the game gets harder you only need to pass a certain percentage of the level in order to finish it. So you want to avoid having blocks left at the end or having them hit the ceiling.

Playing the Game:

Pet Rescue Saga is organized around the central map screen. Using this screen, you can see, in colors, all the levels that are open to you to play. Greyed out levels are those which will unlock after you have progressed suitably through the game. 

You can see how many stars you have achieved on a particular level by looking at the number of stars shown on the map screen. Click on a level you have already played to have another go and try to gain 3-star perfection.

The standard mechanics of Pet Rescue Saga involve you clearing similarly-colored blocks, but this is complicated by the addition of pets, obstacles and Boosters. The Pets are pretty obvious - they are the animals at the top of the screen and you have to get them to the bottom to save them. In certain cases, the pets are inside carriers, in which case you have to match the color of the carrier with the color of the neighboring blocks. Blocks can also be surrounded by cages, in which case you will have to again match neighboring blocks to break them.

You should also keep an eye out for multiplier blocks, which are indicated by 'x2' icons. These double your score for any blocks that are taken away at the same time, so it is a good idea to include as many as possible in the combo.
