West of Dead Cheats & Tips

West of Dead is a fast-paced cover shooter set in Wyoming, 1888. You play the role of murdered and very dead William Mason who finds himself trapped in purgatory. With no memory as to how you got there, and nothing to do but hunt down a preacher who might have the answers you seek. Your goal is to find this preacher and figure out what must be done to allow the dead, including yourself, to continue their journey to find eternal rest. Cheats, Tips and Strategy

Below is a collection of hints and tips that will help you to progress in the game. These include how to unlock new items and how to fast travel. As well as these hints and tips we also have a mini-guide here which goes into more details on some of the tips we have below:

Where to Find Weapons

In West of Dead you will will be able to find weapons and items throughout each level of the game. You can also spend the iron you pick up from defeated enemies by visiting the traders shop. Check out our Best Weapons Guide to find out about the different weapons that are available in West of Dead.

How to Level Up

You will be able to level up William Mason via stat increases which you will gain as you journey through the game. Stat increases will level up your health and perception, they will also increase how resourceful you are with your weapons and enable you to deal out more damage with them.

How to Kill Enemies

In West of Dead each room that you enter is procedurally-generated and based around a concept of lighting and cover-based shooting. This means that if an enemy is standing in light you will be able to lock onto them and fire from anywhere across the room, but if the enemy is standing in shadows the only way you will be able to track them down is by their muzzle flash. Find a Lantern

If the enemy you are trying to take down is hiding in shadows and not firing you will not be able to shoot them as you will won't know where to aim. The way to get around this is to run out from behind cover and find a lantern so the added light you get from shooting it reveals their hiding place and gives you a target to shoot at.

Learn how to Dodge and Slide

To be successful in West of Dead it is important that you are proficient at dodging and sliding into position. A perfectly timed dodge will enable you to avoid taking damage from enemy gunfire.

What are the Currencies

There are two types of currencies in West of Dead that are dropped when an enemy is killed: Iron and Sin Points. Iron is used during a run to buy items at the the traders shop that randomly appears within levels and always offeres a selection of three items you can buy. Sin Points are used between levels to purchase new unlocks.

How to Unlock New Items

In West of Dead there is a small rest area between each level that has a witch that you can give Sin Points to 'purge' and unlock items. Some of these items you will be able to keep with you after dying. Check out our Ability Guide to find out what is available and their Sin Point cost.

How to Fast Travel

After you kill Wendigo in The Hunt you will unlock the teleport rune which will then give you the ability to fast travel to each of the circles that light up green when you step on them.
