How do you do a family portrait like those you see an the official sims 2 website? Anything would be helpful.

Well I don't think there is a proper way but I did indeed do this because I improvised. Try one of the following steps.
1) Get your family into one room and select the doors leading away from the room and select : Lock...Lock for all. Then once they are in a good position choose the blank canvas and select : Paint still picture. (Only available if your creativity skill is high enough). 2) Line up a load of paintings on one wall and get your sims to select and vrw them. Then Select the blank Canvas and select : Paint Still picture. This should only properly work with a small family.

What I did was get your sim up to a creativity skill where he/she can choose what picture to paint. Then put the family in a room and go to the picture, select the pick your choice one where there is a rectangle that you can paint. Get your family in there and click to begin painting.

You can actually paint portraits of one sim but one way is to get them into one room and choose still life painting.
P.S.: You need good creativity
