Question for The Sims 2

Okay, this was my previous question:
My question is, after I calmed down Frankie Fusili, he told me his plan and the woman came and said she's going to arrest him. So then I make my way back down to the lobby and Ava isn't there. On my previous character (I accidently resaved it, deleting all the info), Ava was there and everything was fine. Right now, every time I go back to the penthouse, Frankie's still there. Does anyone know if this is a glitch or I'm doing something wrong?

And all of a sudden I get a phonecall from Misty saying that I need to locate the chest in the desert. I have no idea which point in the game this is at, but on my previous character, I never even got that far. (I got to the part where you need to find 5 mechanical points.) So now I'm completely clueless, and every time I try to enter the desert the guy there makes me turn back. Is there a certain time I can only go?

Ok, I am not sure why Ava is not there, she is supposed to take over the penthouse. This has happened with both my charactors. As for the chest, you can only go at night.
