How to Unlock Switch Skills in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak

Switch Skills is a new feature introduced to the Monster Hunter series that allows you to customize your weapons' movesets, enabling you to switch between two loadouts at any moment during combat. Take a look at our How to Unlock Switch Skills guide to find out everything you need to know about this new feature.

How to Unlock the First Set of New Switch Skills

In Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak each weapon has new Switch Skills which are unique. Every category from 1 to 5 offers at least two possibilities when you access the switch menu. You will get introduced to the first set of new Switch Skills early in the game and once you complete the Daimyo Hermitaur task in the Shrine Ruins you will be able to proceed with the plot and move to Elgado, the new hub. When you arrive there you will be told to speak with Master Arlow who is Elgado's Arena Master. He will then give you a quest which is basically a tutorial on how to use the new Skill Switch ability. You don't have to slay the Arzuros that are released in the arena to complete the tutorial. Just play around with the new swap system until you feel comfortable with it and then hit 'Complete Quest' in the start menu. Additionally, Master Utsushi offers you a new switch skill to train with for each weapon if you attain Rank 3 in Village Quests or Rank 2 in Hub Quests.

How to Unlock the Second Set of New Switch Skills

You will not get access to the second set of new Switch Skills until later into Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak story when you reach Master Rank 4. To unlock the next Urgent Quest you will first need to complete two tasks. Once you meet this requirement you will receive a notification that Master Utsushi wants to speak to you. When you then travel to the Kamura Gathering hub and talk to him, you will receive another new Switch Skill for every weapon. This will bring the total number of Switch Skills you have access to 42.

How to Unlock All Switch Skills in the Base-Game

If you are new to Monster Hunter Rise or a returning player looking to unlock a Switch Skill from the base-game that you missed you will need to do the following. In order to get the first set of Switch Skills you just need to reach Rank 3 in Village Quests or Rank 2 in Hub Quests and then speak to Master Utsushi to unlock the first Switch Skill for every weapon.

Accessing the second set of Switch Skills is more complicated, in order to get these you need to unlock the second base-game Switch Skill for each weapon. This means crafting or upgrading 8 different weapons of each weapon type. Your 8th craft or upgrade for each weapon will unlock a new Switch Skill for that weapon. This basically means that if you want to get all the new Switch Skills you will have to repeat this procedure for each weapon type.

A series of Hub quests needs to be completed in order to unlock the third set of base-game Switch Skills. When you reach Hub rank 4, 5, and 6, Master Utsushi will grant you batches of quests that involve hunting two monsters. Completing each quest will unlock a new Switch Skill for one weapon. You can access the quests for Sword and Shield, Light Bowgun, Hunting Horn, and Switch Axe at rank 4, Great Sword, Charge Blade, Hammer, Lance, and Heavy Bowgun at rank 5, and Long Sword, Gunlance, Insect Glaive, Dual Blades, and Bow at rank 6.
