Mario Strikers: Battle League Beginner Tips and Tricks

Listed below are several Beginner Tips and Tricks which will help you in Mario Strikers: Battle League.

Always Select 'Auto' in Single Player

If you are going to play Mario Strikers: Battle League in single player it is recommended that you select the 'Auto' option as this will make things a lot easier for you when compared to 'Manual'. If you have auto-switching selected you will be able to pass the ball between your players and almost always be in control of the receiving player. 'Manual' is more suited for 2v2 and above where you will be able to decide amongst you who is going to control the character about to get the ball.

Be Careful when Adding Gear

Keep in mind that when you add gear to your character in Mario Strikers: Battle League, that you are just redistributing stats. This means you are just taking points from one thing and moving it to another. You will find there is always a trade-off when you do this which you need to take into consideration, and you will also sometimes find that the default character before you gave them any additional gear is the best option. Keep an eye on your character's stats when you give them gear as it isn't always the answer.

Put Together a Balanced Team

Make sure when you put together your team you have characters with different stats. By having variety in your squad you will be giving yourself a wider range of tactical options when you are faced with tough opponents. Being able to mix up things with a balanced team will also mean you are not one dimensional which makes things more difficult for your opponents.

Know how to Dodge

It is crucial that you master the dodge technique in Mario Strikers: Battle League as it can be the deciding factor when it comes to winning or losing a match. During the tutorial you will be taught how to dodge your opponent during a match by using the 'R' button (the right shoulder button) along with the left analogue stick of your controller to move in your desired direction. However, it is recommended that you use the right analogue stick instead as this will enable you to perform the dodge maneuver without breaking your running direction on the left stick which will result in you maintaining your flow and not slowing you down.

Be Unpredictable

If you continue to use the same tactics time and again your opponent will be able to anticipate your moves and easily defeat you. It is therefore essential that you vary your approach so that you become unpredictable and tougher to beat. There are several ways that you can confuse your opponent, these include cancelling charge shots and tackles (pressing 'B' on your controller) and varying how you deploy items during a match.

Faster Charging

When you find yourself in a situation where you are charging up a Hyper Strike and an opposing player is closing in, you can speed up the charging process slightly to get your shot off quicker by mashing the 'A' button on your controller. However, you need to remember that by quickly tapping rather than timing your Hyper Strike on the meter you will considerably weaken your shot.

Use your Items

Don't forget about your items because when they are used at the right time to exploit your opponent they are capable of turning the tables in a match. You need to be cautious not to hit your own teammates when using certain items, such as the banana peels and green shells.

Don't Tackle Players Off the Ball

One thing you need to avoid doing to prevent your opponent getting free items is tackling them off the ball. Items can be very useful, you do not want to needlessly gift your opponent freebies so they can use them against you in the match. There will be instances where it will be necessary to tackle someone off the ball in order to prevent the opposition from gaining possession, you just need to remember that there are consequences for doing so.

Maneuver into a Better Shooting Position

Keep in mind the goal is larger the closer to the center you are as you approach it. If you head towards the goal from the 'top' or 'bottom' of the pitch you will have an acute angle which will reduce the relative size of your target. If there is a big defensive character between you and the goal your chances of scoring are reduced even further. Although not always possible it is recommended that you always look to maneuver yourself into a better shooting position to give your shot the best chance possible of finding the back of your opponent's net.
