The only way I found was to add a sliver of a room to an outer wall. Then the now interior wall can be moved in the middle. Some walls don't move at all.

Oh, am sorry and to add a room you have to be in build mode and tap Rooms. Then tap outside of the house on a corner and drag it unlit you have a room. If it shows red it means it doesn't fit. Otherwise it will show how much it will cost and give you the green check or the X...
The trick is to tap close enough to the house outter wall without stretching it. Try it and u'll get the hang of it...

Guest answered:

Easy! Just use the kitchen table etc. The one with a sink, with cabinets or drawers and divide the room anyway you like! Haha

Guest answered:

Ok instead of making the room bigger build a room right beside the room you want the second room by (so wall to wall) add a door and bam done! Took me a while but I figured it out

Guest answered:

I don't know it wont work :((. I want to split my kitchen but I don't know how!

Guest answered:

You can't, save up for renovators dream. You at least get dividers I there, I make rooms ten connect them.

Guest answered:

Ok instead of getting a wall, make the room you wanna divide smaller, then drag your finger across the grass outside. It will make a red box if it's too small to create a new room. Make it bigger so it turns green then accept the cost. There you have it, a divided room on Sims freeplay

then it's a waste of money building another one and getting rid of the one I bought
Guest answered:

Drag on the grass and connect it to an already made room.

Guest answered:

How do I seperate a room? Like I want to have a wall in the middle of the room so I have two little rooms?

there's no option to create 'walls' , you can use screens(availble after Bree's balcony quest) to 'divide' an already created room.
