If playing pokemon ruby, a good Pokemon to catch is Solrock. It's "levitate" ability negates all ground type moves which is lucky because ground is one of it's main weaknesses. It can learn some wicked moves and can dominate the Smart pokemon contest circuit. Oh, and it may also be holding a Sun Stone.
