Your objective in Far: Changing Tides is to sail your boat across the sea to find a lost city in the frozen wastes. In order to be able to do this you need to be proficient in using the sail which the game does not explain. This How to Sail Faster guide will tell you everything you need to know about using the sail, so you can reach your destination faster.
The mast on your boat is erected by pressing the button on top of your boat. Once up you need to climb up it, grab the rope, jump down, and attach it to the hull of your boat. Doing this opens the sail. The flag that is ion top of the mast indicates which way the wind is blowing, and you now have push or pull the sail so that you are sailing as close to the wind as possible. The rope that is attached to the flag has a blue section at the top and when the flag is in that zone you will be sailing as fast as possible.
To maintain your speed you need to grab the lever that moves your sail and either push or pull it to capture the most wind. Whenever you move the lever in the right direction the flag on the top of the mast will climb higher and get close to the blue zone. Once you have mastered how to manipulate the wind to make your boat move faster across the sea additional sails will appear out the side enabling you to capture even more wind and sail even faster. Until you get your engine you need to pay close attention to the wind and your sail. Once you have your engine you can use that to help move forward when the wind has dies down.
