Hellhound in Eiyuden Chronicles: Rising is a mini-boss that is in the form of a big wolf. You will encounter this creature when you venture into the Great Forest while trying to complete the quest you got from Frida, the owner of the Armor Shop. Take a look at our How to Defeat Hellhound guide to find out how you can beat this mini-boss.
This creature known as Hellhound is encountered during Main Quest 6: Trouble in the Quarry when you set foot into the Great Forest. To reach this mini-boss fast travel to the Cave Signpost and then descend on the hole on your left. Continue going down until you reach ground level, there you will need to move all the way to the right taking down the creatures that get in your way as you do so. Eventually you will reach a new area. At this new area you will come across a new Signpost and a chest containing a Level 1 Critical Balm. When you continue going in the same direction and defeat a slime the Hellhound will appear.
Although the Hellhound has a lot more health and damage than a regular enemy it does not have the shield gauge system which means you will be able to directly damage its health every time you attack it. The Hellhound has two different types of attacks, a charged stamp and a jumping attack. The charged stamp can be avoided by jumping over the creature and the jumping attack that ends with a claw move to the floor can easily be dodged by running to the left or right. If you time it correctly you will be able to trick both attacks with CJ's Quick Step, you will though take damage if you touch the creature - even if it's not attacking you.
To defeat the Hellhound you simply have to escape from its claws as many times as possible and attack whenever you see an opening you can exploit using your Link Attacks which you can chain twice to deal lots of damage. Remember that if you are taking too much damage you can consume a healing potion by pausing the game and opening your Stowpack.
