The Mother Brain

Finding the Mother Brain and acquiring the item it will give you after defeating it is essential to reveal one of the three endings available in the game.

To find the Mother Brain, make sure you were able to pull the lever that drops the Mother Brain around Mergo’s Loft. Now that the Mother Brain is lost in a dark pit, you will have to proceed to the area where you fought several Midget Knights and the area with large holes on the floor. Upon reaching this place, you will find a small elevator.

Get inside the elevator. The minute you set foot on the elevator, you will be descending down a pitch black area—the area will be so dark that you wouldn’t be able to see a single thing.

Once the elevator comes to a stop, light up a torch and try to walk around and find the Mother Brain. When you see the Mother Brain, stand right before its eye and perform the “Make Contact” gesture you got earlier. If your gesture is recognized, you will receive a Moon Rune, which is essential to get a hidden ending.

After this, you may hack and slash the Mother Brain to get the Living String item.
