Top 10 Pokemon that Could Replace Pikachu as the Face of the Franchise

#4 - Mew

Unlike Rayquaza, Mew, we feel, has a more legitimate chance of stealing away Pikachu's Title. Mew, like Pikachu, has just about everything going for it. It's incredibly cute, and has a lot of power behind that innocent face. Mew can also learn every move in existence, something that even Pikachu can't claim. But like Rayquaza, there would be a struggle in terms of making a storyline that revolves around Mew. You have to remember that Mew is a Legendary Pokemon, and is extremely rare. How does this new trainer (since Ash wouldn't really be an option here) find and befriend Mew? What are the goals of this trainer? How would Mew help that?

Mew would obviously have the power to help this trainer accomplish great things, perhaps even more than that of Ash. But the problem still remains how to pull everything together. The Pokemon Company could always just have the trainer be like Ash and try to be a Pokemon Master, and that would probably be best for the company. Mew has always been a popular Pokemon, so it would help provide a smoother transition away from Ash and Pikachu. And who knows, maybe they could actually keep Ash and Pikachu and have Mew and Pika share the Face of Franchise. Ash has ran into Mew on a number of occasions, so it would make some sense in that regards. It would be an easy addition, since everything would basically remain the same for the entire series.

Adding a Legendary to the mix would be entertaining, but it might not be the most realistic. And for this reason, Rayquaza and Mew rank as low as they do in our minds. They're great Pokemon and all, but they might not have that simplistic and underdog aspects that Pikachu brings to the table.

#3 - Meowth

Now a few fans at home are probably scratching their heads at this one... OR... They understand and agree with this completely. Meowth has been one of the cornerstones to the Pokemon Franchise, being one of the three consistent faces of the infamous Team Rocket Trio. It probably has more common sense than both Jessie and James combined - being the one who really comes up with and builds their destructive devices - and yet it gets stuck losing every time. It wouldn't be shocking if Meowth one day decided to leaving Team Rocket and start a new, and that would be the premise to making it the face of Pokemon.

Now it would take a lot to take this short of risk, but the Pokemon Company has been changing a lot of aspects to Pokemon recently. Having a storyline behind Meowth though would be the biggest change yet, but you just never know. Odds are Pikachu will remain the face of Pokemon until Pokemon is no more. But that doesn't mean we can't speculate on such a thing.

If the company were to back Meowth, it would most likely mean it leaves Jessie and James in it's past. Meowth would then probably run into the new main character of the series, eventually traveling with him/her. Perhaps it could even run into its Team Rocket Pals while on its new journey, showing where Jessie and James are at now in their careers. And perhaps Meowth will eventually come to grips that what team Rocket was doing was ultimately wrong, and its trainer and it can finally stop them once and for all. A plot similar to this would finally have Meowth be the face of the Franchise, but like we said, it would take A WHOLE LOT from the Pokemon Company to pull the trigger on this.
