Bethesda Drops a Bomb at Microsoft E3 Presser: PC Mods for Fallout 4 on Xbox One

02. Project Nevada Mod

Not for nothing nut according to our intern if you only plan to download a few mods, they should include Nevada Skies, and this one - Project Nevada - minimum.

When we pinned our intern to the wall and began flicking his nose while demanding that he justify that comment (you see at SuperCheats we believe that proper intern training should involve pain) this is what he said:

“This Mod is awesome because it refreshes the game in a whole new way! Makes it more challenging! Owie! Makes it more immersive - lots of added immersion - STOP THAT! Jeeze! Ouch! You can actually wear sunglasses that makes your view LOOK like you are wearing sunglasses! When you wear helmets it adds first-person view of the helmet like you are wearing an actual helmet ARGH UNCLE! What is the safety word again?!”

Now you have to admit that our intern functions very well under pressure. Not only was his description and justification accurate, it covered some of the more significant of the mods that this package installs. But not all of them (we did let him go, honest).

This mod arrives in several chunks - there is the base mod that they call the Project Nevada Core which includes the game play features that are poplar in first-person games like bullet time, sprint, and grenade hot-key. All of which are written from the ground up, with new features like switching grenade types without going into the inventory, VATS Perks for Bullet Time, and more.

Others are totally new, like a dynamic crosshair that changes size based on movement and the weapon you are using, and variable zoom for the different scopes you use. There is also slower back-peddling, which reduces your backwards motion based on your Agility stat.

The intern's comments about the helmet view and sunglasses did not include the fact that their condition is also reflected; so if you have scratched the lenses or been shot in the face, the view reflects that damage.

There are also immersive health-related visuals like you would find in Call of Duty or Battlefield, so when you are wounded badly your vision is blurred, you get weak, and you even get the heartbeat sound effect to let you know that Charon wants his silver.

One of the more interesting mods it adds is enhanced stealth-field -- the stealth field of armor can now be toggled on and off by a hot-key. To keep it balanced though, the field only remains stable for brief periods. Its status is displayed as an added feature to the HUD.

Power armor helmets and some other gear sport enhanced vision modes. Think infrared, starlight night-vision, and EM vision. But be aware that energy cells are required if you don't have power armor to provide the juice.

Those are the highlights, the core actually contains more - too much more for us to cover it all - but there are several optional modules that you can add, and those we will briefly cover now.

The first is Cyberware, which adds cybernetic enhancements that include implants and high-tech kit. Despite the fact that the world was nuked and you are practically living in the old west, this package offers you some pretty modern kit, including head implants like an AR Scanner with real-time target analysis, bionic eyes with enhanced vision modes, and an empathy synthesizer that boosts Charisma.

The second is the Rebalance Module, which restores the challenge from the Fallout 3 Wanderers Edition. This makes subtle and non-intrusive changes to the game that make it more challenging without really being in-your-face about it. Hey, subtle is good! Trust us.

The third is called Equipment, which brings new weapons and armor to the Wastelands. Basically this package contains a lot of the weapons and armor that were created by the community, adding them into the Wasteland by strategically scattering them across the lands.

So there you go - our intern really nailed our Number Two Mod for New Vegas. Extra Doritos and Baja Blast Mountain Dew for the intern!

01. Project Brazil Mod

When we reach the Number One entry in a Top 10 List you have to expect that it will be something special, and our choice for Number One is just that: a major content expansion project for the game that is as close to an official expansion content DLC as you are ever likely to see from an unofficial player-populated source!

Project Brazil is a massive brand new campaign - yes, you read that right - a Campaign!

Playing as the kid from Vault 18 - a misunderstood loner from an all new Vault in an all new secret location in the heart of the San Bernardino Mountains, your attitude problems end up getting you into more than just a little trouble on the final night of the Vault Ball season. Trouble that leads to an epic new adventure of course!

Threats include internal strife between the generations of Vault Dwellers at your Vault, the actions of the New California Republic ruled by president Wendell Peterson, and all of the natural threats that exist in the over-world. But that is not all!

You also butt heads with the New Reno Mob's Bishop Family, what is left of the Shi Clans, and the threat posed by the Super Mutant Army. Add to that a near-army of bloodthirsty Survivalist Raider Tribes, and you should start to get an idea of the threats you face.

But the mod is not just about new threats and old ones mind you, it is also about an alternate start in Vault 18 with a new Player Character and main quest line featuring a new Intro Video, new main and side-quest collection, with new areas to explore, new companions to meet and add to your party, and hey, practically a new world to master!

This mod includes a rich collection of new lore to be experienced, as well as hours of new voice acting that was recorded in pro-quality at the Radian-Helix Media's Tucson, Az Studio. We are talking serious game-expanding mod here!

In addition to all that it sports an expanded world in the California Republic that includes two new radio stations - Pirate Radio Station DETH 981 and News Radio Station NCRPR with 2 new DJ's - which is good because they can keep you informed about the massive three-way war brewing between The Super Mutants, The Survivalist Raiders, and The New California Republic!

Add to that new crafting objects, new perks, and new skills, and what do you get? Why you get a mod that could ONLY land in our list as Number One, that's what you get!

Conclusion

Well there you have it - the Top 10 Mods for the PC version of Fallout: New Vegas will give you a hint at the sort of mods you can expect to find created for Fallout 4 - and that means the sort of mods you can expect to PLAY in Fallout 4. And how cool is that? Really cool actually.

Considering that the mods we will be playing in Fallout 4 are going to be the mods that were created for the PC version of the game, this surprising move by Microsoft and Bethesda also suggests that they have found a focus that has serious potential to bring the PC and console communities a measure of peace and mutual respect that has long been missing.

We hope so anyway.

Of course you should bear in mind that to actually apply mods to Fallout 4 on the Xbox One, our sources tell us that you will need a home network with a PC running Windows 10. More details on that coming soon!
