07. Fallout Shelter Mobile Game

Okay technically this is NOT part of Fallout 4, but in a way it is too...

The reason we say that is largely because it was announced during the briefing for Fallout 4, and the comment made by Todd that they made the game as both an homage to the style and because it felt right. Well, that and they wanted to give us something to play while we wait for Fallout 4 to launch.

Fallout Shelter is available for iOS and Android phones and tablets, and puts the player in the position of the designated Vault Manager, who is in charge of nearly every aspect of Vault life, from building and expanding your Vault to assigning the dwellers their jobs.

The game was inspired by a quirky little game called Progress Quest, and owns the player in a combination of typical grind style of play (think putting your dwellers to work to gain caps) to building and expanding your vault, and surviving random attacks from beasts and humans.

The dwellers from your Vault have their own designated job that you select based on their stats, but can also be sent out into the Wasteland to bring back new kit and have their adventures, and maybe even level-up.

Jobs are important though, because putting the right person in the right job means that they will help you to earn more bottle caps. Not just caps though - a properly run Vault also requires power, fresh water, food, and other resources, and that is what YOU bring to the equation as the Vault Manager.

Managing the dwellers and their jobs is more of a complex process than it first appears, especially as you are seeking to create a balance while getting the right people in the right jobs.

There is certainly a learning curve, but the attention to stats and details may very well help the player later, while playing Fallout 4 since they will become second nature.

The game is available now, is free-to-play and download, does not require an Internet connection (once it has been installed) and so can be played anywhere.
