10 More Games that Deserve a Sequel
2. Gladius
Developer LucasArts' legacy will always point to mostly Star Wars games. It seems odd to even speak of this fallen giant in the past, but such is the nature of our cruel industry sometimes. Sporadically, however, a game from the George Lucas brand would land that didn't bear its creator's stamp. It may not have had many items stray from their household name by the end, but when it did, a game like Gladius managed to outshine a lot of its peers.
As a 'tactics' game, Gladius didn't start out looking like anything out of the ordinary. Various character classes do battle in a tile grid arena with turn-based combat. Luckily, a lot of thought was put into altering various things under the hood to make this game as unique as it still is today. One of its most notable design quirks was the addition of a wind-up meter that would force players to stay vigilant, to perform better attacks. Especially when stringing combos of different buttons, hitting the slim critical mark or losing out on an attack was pretty tense for a static model.
Moreover, the character enhancement aspect of Gladius went deep, not just in its story-related heroes. With flair from Might & Magic, a gladiator school could opt for outsider units, such as minotaurs or undead summoners. A rock-paper-scissors triangle ensured that each fighter had their upper hand. Deities granted a certain affinity to attacks. Height differences and positioning would tangibly change battle odds. Its barrage of clever implementations kept encounters interesting and that for the many hours it offered.
Despite a strong reception, Gladius was never championed as much as its tactical peers. With LucasArts fully banking on Star Wars, there was also no hope for any growth. Now that Disney owns the studio, they're unlikely to grant a cult following any fan service. Though, if Disney did, it would sincerely increase its lesser reputation as a game company. This is the corporation that even had the brass to shut down Star Wars 1313. It's due for a feel-good PR move. A Gladius sequel would be the biggest possible step.

How about Final Fantasy X, I got like 700 hours in that game. Same for Tropico 5 with 400 hours. Final Fantasy VIII is my most time consuming one with over 2000 hours, though it's just cuz I finished it start to finish at least 45 times. I love that game. MMO's don't really count, then you gotta include Lineage II, TERA, FFXIV, Guild Wars 2 and everything else.
Totally agree about Beyond Good and Evil.
I'd add D&D Heroes for the XBox. I loved that ARPG, and would love to see an updated version using the new D&D 5e rules. Still keeping the top-down action, of course. There's no need to mount the camera over the shoulder for EVERY game.
No beyond good and evil???? Wtf
lot of odd ways to Spell Golden Sun Dark Dawn
