10 More Games that Deserve a Sequel

6. Jade Empire

While we mentioned Baldur's Gate, we might as well go to one of developer BioWare's greatest mysteries. The massive juggernaut providing the game world with epics like Mass Effect and Dragon Age once pitched a different RPG altogether: Jade Empire.

Standing aside from its established D&D peers, this universe opened up a new direction in the fantasy realm, one connecting to a more solemn take on Asian culture. This story wasn't necessarily inspired by anime, that's for certain. Instead, the Wushu style of martial arts that's also featured in games like Dynasty Warriors would provide the swaying set pieces of ornate buildings and fairylike forests. What a serene time this was.

Much in line with BioWare's prior entry, Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic, Jade Empire followed the formulaic approach of the studio that switched conversation options with action sequences. Players could choose their combat expertise from a few different styles, which included turning into a giant statue, to stomp all over enemies. You don't see MMA fighters pull that off. Some characters would join the party, such as a demon-possessed child, who had the ability to transform into a hideous frog. With an emphasis on end-game content, the team of adventurers could be greatly upset, depending on some key choices. Some members would start a veritable rebellion, if necessary. Any means would do, so long as the land was saved, either by dethroning a despot or taking their place.

As alluring as Jade Empire may sound, what we saw was what we got from BioWare. Once the machine of Electronic Arts started churning, there was no return to older domains. Yet, now that the Mass Effect Trilogy has come to pass and Dragon Age is also likely to stay quiet for a bit, may we ask: Where's our new Jade Empire? There's time for a new property with Shadow Realms, so how about serving the old fan base? Just imagine how much more gorgeous the draping scenes could become with modern technology. A sequel could also compete with Dynasty Warriors, which is currently enjoying a rise in popularity. The time is right.
